What is Reiki?

Where Does it Come From?

The history of Reiki was began over 100 years ago. It was established by Dr. Mikao Usui, a distinguished Japanese scholar who studied Buddhism, martial arts, and Kiko (a Japanese form of qi gong). During a 21 day meditation and fasting retreat, he experienced an event that would change his life forever. He was spiritually awakened and experienced visions of ancient Sanskrit symbols that helped him develop a system of healing. From that moment, Usui Reiki was born.

Reiki is a Japanese phrase made up of the words Rei meaning “universal life force” and Ki “energy”.

About Dr. Usui Reiki

The Founder of Reiki

Dr. Usui desired a method of healing that was unattached to any specific religion and religious belief – so that his system would be accessible to everyone. It was this desire that led to this art of hands-on energy healing that targets stagnant energy in and around the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain. Since then, his teachings have been taught and passed down through the International Usui Reiki Network.

Reiki and Its Powerful Healing Benefits

The Body-Mind-Connection

A Wide Range of Benefits

Reiki offers a wide range of benefits. It’s believed that when we experience negative or traumatic events, the associated energy can become stored in our internal organs, leading to blockages that disrupt our body’s natural balance.

What is a negative or traumatic event?

Such events can include accidents, break-ups, toxic work environments, the loss of a loved one, or even early-life experiences like vaccinations.

When this energy isn’t released, the body may manifest the unresolved trauma through symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, and other conditions.

Reiki can assist in releasing these negative energy blockages, allowing the body to relax and let go of trapped energy.

How Can Reiki Help You?

Reiki embodies the energy of unconditional love. When applied to the body, it can:

Relieve pain, particularly chronic pain

Reduce stress, anxiety and tension, promoting a sense of calm

Enhance sleep quality

Accelerate the body’s natural healing processes

Foster harmony and balance for body, mind and spirit

Clear the mind, improve focus and aid in decision-making

Complement medical treatments and other therapies, such as chemotherapy

Support the body’s detoxification and bolster the immune system

Reiki Energy Treatment

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

During a Reiki treatment, you’ll lie fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table. I place my hands gently on or slightly above specific areas of your body, focusing on key organs and energy centers. As a result the Reiki energy flows naturally to where it is needed most, promoting balance and healing on all levels—physical, emotional, and energetic.

Most clients feel deeply relaxed within minutes. Some experience warmth, tingling, pulsing, or gentle waves of energy. Others may feel calm, sleepy, or even emotional. Each session is unique, and your body receives exactly what it needs in that moment.

After your session, I recommend drinking plenty of water to support your body during a possible detox process. Staying hydrated helps your body process and release energy more easily. Therefore clients often report better sleep, increased clarity, emotional release, and a noticeable sense of inner peace in the days following a treatment.

Reiki supports people of all ages—adults, children, seniors, and even babies. It’s gentle, non-invasive, and works alongside any medical or therapeutic treatments.

Distant Reiki follows the same principles as in-person sessions. Using intention and focus, I connect with your energy from afar—no physical presence is required. With a photograph, name, and location, I act as a proxy and send healing wherever you are.

It’s ideal for clients going through surgery, emotional stress, or big events like exams or job interviews, or simply those who do not have time to come to an in-person session. Distant Reiki is powerful, convenient, and highly effective.

Animals respond beautifully to the energy. Because many pets struggle to stay still or dislike touch when they are unwell or injured, I usually send energy from a distance. It helps them feel calm, safe, and supported—especially during illness, injury, or end-of-life care.

By addressing energy imbalances, Reiki promotes holistic well-being, helping you navigate life’s challenges with greater ease.
